Defeated By the Wintry Mix

Well, the big activist weekend turned out to be a bust because we hit bad weather in Maryland. On Friday afternoon, the area around Ellicott City started getting a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. The weather continued to worsen through the afternoon and evening, which kept us from heading into D.C. for the Michael Franti concert, which was a MAJOR bummer. And because of the weather, Saturday's March on the Pentagon had much lower numbers than what organizers had hoped for.

So we missed out on the two main reasons that we went to the area. No doubt, I was not happy about the turn of events, but we made the best of it and had a good time with friends Kevin, Eliott, and Dave.

But after 4 years of U.S. military involvement in Iraq, I hope we can all take time to remember those American men and women who have served their country and not returned home. Brave New Films has a video Iraq War Memorial that you can watch here. And let's not forget the many Iraqi civilians who have been killed in George Bush's war.

Activist Weekend in D.C.

I'm gearing up for an interesting weekend. On Friday, I will accompany a group of friends to see Michael Franti and Spearhead in Washington, D.C. (For those of you near Asheville, he's there tonight and in Norfolk Thursday.)

I learned about Franti from my friend Rick, who had a showing of the DVD "I Know I'm Not Alone" at his house a while back. Rick is a huge Franti fan and convinced some of the rest of us to buy tickets for the show this Friday night at the 930 Club in D.C., which is now sold out!

The following day, we hope to participate in the March on the Pentagon, an anti-war march from the Mall in D.C. to the Pentagon.

Hopefully I will post again after the weekend with updates and possibly photos.

Join us for the march on Saturday!

Until then, remember what Franti sings: We can bomb the world to pieces, but we can't bomb it into peace. Power to the peaceful!!

Oh, Ann ...

It's been a while since I last posted. One reason is I wanted to give my buddy Dave Copeland plenty of time at the top of the blog so everyone will be aware that his book is coming out. His release party is this week. If you're in the Boston area, check it out.

Another reason for my delay is that I was too lazy to take the five minutes it takes to switch over to the new blogger from the old blogger. Sad, isn't it?

But then I saw where my old friend Ann Coulter was up to her old tricks. And I wondered, why does anyone ever pay to have her as a speaker or to hear her speak or to buy one of her books. What a horrible, wretched person is Ann Coulter.

For the latest on her, check out this article in Slate.

Well, I'll try to post more frequently in March than I did in February. See ya soon!
